Based in New York, Victoria Akkari has a background in jewelry design from Parson’s School of Design, the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Having always dreamt of working with local artisans in Africa, she decided to take a trip to Marrakech. A few days into the journey, things took an unexpected turn when she was hit by a truck. Cut, bruised, and feeling like a failure, but miraculously able to walk away from the accident, she returned to New York. While cooking dinner and realizing there was no oil on hand to sauté freshly chopped onions and garlic, she remembered the unknown ‘edible oil’ purchased in Morocco still in her suitcase. It turned out to be a delightful surprise and turned a seemingly failed trip into a new destiny.
This journey finally lead to a small women’s cooperative where traditional methods and technology create a synergy of finely crafted oil of superior quality oil. Helping women and creating a beautiful oil is at the very heart of what we do.
