Victoria Akkari has a formal background in jewelry design from Parson’s School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
After working in the jewelry industry her creative spirit and love for design sparked a dream of working with local artisans in Africa which lead her to Morocco. Traveling to Marrakech, a few days into her journey, things took an unexpected turn when she was hit by a truck. Cut and bruised, but miraculously able to walk away from the accident; she felt that the trip was a failure and returned to New York. One night while cooking dinner and realizing there was no olive oil to sauté freshly chopped onions and garlic, she remembered the mysterious ‘cooking oil’ purchased in Morocco. Being a self-professed foodie, she had to try it. Completely surprised and delighted, the destiny of that failed trip re-emerged as a new beginning.
This journey has lead to the sole dedication of working with a women’s cooperative and helping preserve traditional argan oil methods while employing technology to produce superior quality oil. It is the purity and beauty of this luxurious, rare oil and the women who hand-craft it that are at the heart of what we do.
